Denver, one of the tallest cities in the entire United States, is nicknamed as the Mile High City because it is one mile above sea level (how convenient is that?). The Rocky Mountains to the west and the High Plains to the east encircle the city, which is located in the South Platte River Valley. There are a lot of museums and other things to do for people who like to be more reflective.
1 The Mile High Stadium
Since the Broncos have won another Super Bowl, Mile High Stadium has become even more well-liked and well-known for hosting them. In reality, the Broncos set records for the most victories in two seasons (33), the most playoff victories in two seasons (seven), and the most victories in three seasons (46, from 1996 to 1998) when playing at Mile High Stadium. They also won back-to-back Super Bowls in 1997 and 1998.
2 Larimer Square
Enjoy a stroll around Larimer Square, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Denver. The square’s history goes back to the 19th century, when Colorado was focused on gold and the famous gold strikes which helped place the place on the map. The square was the site of many “firsts,” among them the city’s very first bank, its first dry goods retailer, the first theater, first bookstore and even the its first postal office! The old structures remain, however the modern ones are just as beautiful, and include excellent dining establishments and shops that offer unique and unusual products.
3 Denver Public Library
Nothing beats losing myself in an hour or three of literary enjoyment for me, therefore I’m always pleased to recommend good libraries. When you visit this enormous library, which has over 2 million objects like books, videos, DVDs, reference materials, and even photos, you’ll experience the same feelings. For those in the family who are interested in Western history and genealogy, there are many informative resources to investigate. And don’t forget the small ones; with a great and well-designed kiddie’s area, several children’s story time activities, and everyone will be happy.
4 Downtown Aquarium
This is the perfect place to visit for a family day out. With over 500 species and an impressive 1 million gallons of water, the interactive Stingray Reef touch tank, Dive Lounge, Aquarium Restaurant, Nautilus Ballroom and much more, there is plenty to keep everyone happy. The aquarium is very well designed and makes for a great educational experience for both young and old alike where they can learn about sea life while having fun together.
5 Children’s Museum of Denver
This fantastic museum has gone a long way from its origins in a converted school bus in 1973. It was initially designed with infants to eight-year-olds in mind, but it has since grown into a “must-see” attraction for people of all ages. The museum offers a variety of interactive, unique, and hands-on opportunities like woodworking, rocket launching, nature climbing & caves, and a grocery marketing station.
