According to a top corporate executive on Tuesday, as part of an effort to increase its reach from the country, Netflix plans to offer consumers in India access to its support without charge for a weekend.
The American streaming juggernaut recently stopped providing new U.S. users with a first-month free subscription after reporting poor user growth for the quarter that ended in September.
Greg Peters, COO and Chief Product Officer of Netflix, discussed the company’s earnings call by saying that the company intends to keep trying out various approaches to entice customers in many parts of the world.
One of these innovative methods is offering customers free weekend access to Netflix at various markets,” the speaker said.
He said that the company has selected India as the initial area where it will test this idea and “will determine how that goes” there, where it competes with Disney, Amazon, and thirty other services.
Without revealing the exact date the company will introduce this new evaluation in India, he said: “We believe giving everyone in a country access to Netflix for free for a weekend may be a fantastic way to introduce a lot of new people to the wonderful stories we have, the support, and how it functions… and hopefully get a lot of these people to register.” (At the time of publication, it wasn’t.)
This is not the first time Netflix has used India as a test market for novel ideas.

Before presenting it as a permanent tier in the country this past year and then about a dozen markets, the company previously toyed with the idea of a $2.7 mobile-only monthly package in New Delhi. Since then, it has examined other national pricing plans.
In the last 10 years, India has become the largest untapped market for Silicon Valley and Chinese businesses searching for their second billion clients.
In India, the second-largest internet market in the world, Disney, Amazon, Google, Apple, Spotify, and many more corporations offer a variety of services at a lower cost.
The organization is also strengthening its ties with other national industry participants after allowing $420 million to be used to create and license content in India by the end of 2023 last year.
It succeeds in packaging its app for the Indian company’s fiber broadband and cellular information initiatives with Reliance Jio Platforms, the country’s largest telecom operator.
It also stated that the business had partnered with several Indian financial institutions to simplify payment processing for customers from India. We expect [more payment options] to have retention benefits.
